Richard Schumann, M.D., ABPN
Neurology, Closed Head Injuries and Sleep Medicine
"I have always believed that every patient deserves the very best care a physician can provide. One of my primary goals is to leave every patient in a better place than when they first came to see me. Sometimes that means finding a cure. Other times it means providing answers, reassurance, or improving a person's quality of life. Whatever the diagnosis, I want my patients to know they have a trusted advocate who will listen carefully, explore every possible solution, and guide them through the process so they never have to face it alone.
I chose Neurology because I was drawn to the complexity of the nervous system and the opportunity to solve challenging medical problems that can have a profound impact on people's lives. Throughout my career, I have remained passionate about advancing my knowledge so I can provide my patients with the most current, evidence-based care. My clinical interests naturally expanded into Clinical Neurophysiology, including EEG and EMG testing, as well as Sleep Medicine, allowing me to better diagnose and treat a wide range of neurological conditions.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my profession is helping patients understand what is happening to them. Neurological conditions can often be frightening because of the uncertainty they create. I believe that by listening carefully, explaining complex conditions in a way patients can understand, and working together to develop a personalized treatment plan, we can replace fear with confidence and help patients move forward with hope.
I am honored every time a patient places their trust in me. At Delaware Back Pain, I value working alongside a multidisciplinary team of physicians and rehabilitation specialists who share the same commitment to collaboration and compassionate care. Together, our goal is to provide comprehensive treatment that improves function, restores quality of life, and helps every patient achieve the best outcome possible."
